What genealogy tools do you use? Most of us have favorite tools we use to research, analyze, combine, and present our family history research. But there’s always room for improvement and  knowing what types of tools are available can help us better understand how to make the most of our research.

GRIP Virtual Evening Sessions this year highlight four must-have tools that  will help your family history.

Lynn Turner, AG®, FUGA, Director of the FamilySearch Library, will present What’s New at FamilySearch.

FamilySearch is the website for research. Lucky for us, it’s constantly evolving, and to make the most of it, we need to know the latest. This presentation from the Director of the Library will help you plan your online research.

Lynn Turner graduated with a BA in Family History and Genealogy from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in Spain and Latin America. He has been an accredited genealogist in Spain research since 2006. Lynn has worked in various roles at FamilySearch for seventeen years and is currently the Director of the FamilySearch Library. Lynn has extensive experience in lecturing and presenting classes on Hispanic genealogy. He has presented as a guest lecturer at the national archives of Peru and has also given presentations in Spain, Colombia, and Brazil. He has presented Hispanic workshops at both NGS and FGS as well as coordinating weeklong genealogical institute courses at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) and the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR).

Richard K. Miller of Goldie May  will present How to do more genealogy in less time with Goldie May’s genealogy tools. This will be a live demo of Goldie May, genealogy research software that can help you stay organized, analyze what you find, and navigate more quickly to the right resources at the right time. Among other things, it provides an automatic research log and a newspaper coverage tool to see which online newspaper site has titles in the area your ancestors lived in.

Richard K Miller is the founder of genealogy research software Goldie May. He previously worked as a software engineer at three genealogy companies. Now he’s building Goldie May to help his research and yours. Richard has presented at RootsTech, Legacy Family Tree Webinars, the BYU Family History Library, the UK Society of Genealogists, and dozens of genealogical societies. He has appeared twice on the Research Like a Pro podcast. Goldie May has been highlighted on Diana Elder & Nicole Dyer’s Family Locket, James Tanner’s Genealogy Star, Randy Seaver’s Genea-Musings, and Jim Beidler’s Roots & Branches.

Carly Morgan of Family Tree Notebooks will present Family Tree Notebooks: A Simple Way to Get Organized.

Carly Lane Morgan owns Family Tree Notebooks, an organization system based on digital genealogy worksheets. She is a frequent speaker in the field of genealogy and focuses on social media, digital organization, and Chinese-American family history. She is the Marketing Chair for the California Genealogical Society. She also serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committees for NGS and APG.

Ellen Goodwin of Artifcts will present Unlocking and Sharing the Stories and Family History Behind Our ‘Stuff.’

Ellen is co-founder and CSO of Artifcts. She is passionate about ‘stuff’ that matters. She frequently speaks on the process of building disruptive and innovative companies; furthering LongeviTech’s mission to help seniors live longer, better, more fulfilling lives; and helping families share stories and bring memories and histories forward with them for future generations. Prior to co-founding Artifcts, Ellen served as Chief Solutions Officer of Knoema. She managed Knoema’s largest strategic client engagements. As CSO, she also directed content solutions and client services in concert with her role helping to drive the corporate product roadmap. Before joining Knoema, Ellen served as an Intelligence Analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency, including serving more than one year as a briefer to a cabinet level official. Ellen holds a B.A. in Business and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Masters of Public Policy from Duke University. She is a member of the Chief executive network for women.
